Video editing for famous artist, will be broadcast on VH1, BET, MTV. Possible future work if all goes well.
Budget: $10 – $40 USD
I manage one of the premier recording studio and live sound stages in Seattle. We recently shot a music video for a single song with a famous Grammy nominated west coast rapper. We'd like to use this video editing project as an opportunity to transition away from in-house editing and color grading.
More info about the project:
This was a music video shoot with the artist and a live band. The song itself is for the artist's new single. The video will be delivered to Viacom for broadcast on VH1, BET, MTV, etc. The entire song is about 7 mins long, consisting of an intro, main body of the song, and a jammy ending/outro.
Audio was professionally recorded in Seattle and will be mixed in LA. We can provide a rough initial mix for sync.
Lighting was programmed via DMX by our LD to ensure all takes will have the same lighting at any given point of the song, making it easier to select different parts from different takes without affecting continuity (there is an ending/outro section with ad lib lighting, but this shouldn't be a problem).
The project workflow will require:
Color grading footage
- Footage is already labeled (ie. Intro, Gimbal C100, Take 2)
- Three cams were used, two Blackmagics shooting ProRes 4:2:2 HD, and one Canon C100 shooting AVCHD. We love the look of the C100, but of course the AVCHD footage isn't as "gradeable", so grading would probably involve minor tweaks to the C100 footage, then matching the Blackmagic ProRes footage as close as possible.
- Shoot was low light, high-contrast, lots of blue backlighting to create shadow/silhouette effects. We'd like to pull out faces in places, but want to maintain the dark vibe too.
- The C100 was on a gimbal with a cine lens set to T1.5. Focus pulling was manual, so focus isn't always perfect with such a short focal length. Just do your best with this, we understand it may be a little fuzzy in places. Worst case, there are lots of takes and cameras to select from.
Video editing requirements:
- Edit one cohesive video for this single song from multiple takes and three cameras.
- We have chosen take 3 as the best, but we may want to use some of the really good stuff from other takes as long as it will sync up with the audio (see below on this).
- Most of the shots are close head shots with cine lenses set to T1.5, meaning you can't see sharp details of exactly what the musicians are doing in many shots. This should make it easy to mix/comp takes and also gives a very cool and strong bokeh effect.
- SIMPLE EDITING / CUTS!!! This project shouldn't require any crazy special effects, complex transitions, etc. The director would like a live show/MTV Unplugged or Late Show kind of vibe, so mostly simple cuts, maybe a fade or two here and there, but mostly just a natural, cool, vibey look.
Lo res pics included for artist's discretion.
If this project goes well, we will likely offer you many more projects. We are mostly an audio recording studio, but trying to improve our video/multimedia deliverables, so would like to work with the best editor our artists can afford to create the best video content possible! Can you help us accomplish this?
Please feel free to ask any questions. We're nice people, we generally work with artists who are very nice and easy to work with. Aloha!
