About the Band

Velvet Divide is a new original rock band getting ready to push hard on social media. We’ve got powerful tracks and raw performance / rehearsal / behind-the-scenes footage. Now we’re looking for a top-notch video editor with real music video experience to turn that footage into viral, scroll-stopping reels.

Create the best, most shareable rock band music video reels possible to grow real fans, followers, and streams.

Project Overview

We need 5 short-form vertical reels for Instagram and TikTok, with varying lengths up to 60 seconds each. Think of them as mini music videos that hook immediately, look professional, and feel built for the algorithm.

We’re not experts in editing or social growth, so we’re also looking for someone who can guide us a bit on what works best for Reels/TikTok.

Your Responsibilities

You will:
• Edit 5 vertical reels (9:16) from footage we provide
• Lengths: 15–60 seconds each (we want a mix; you can suggest what works best)
• Create dynamic, music-synced edits:
• Tight on-beat cuts, creative transitions, strong pacing
• Smart use of slow motion, speed ramps, jump cuts, zooms, overlays, etc.
• Design a hook in the first 1–3 seconds so viewers stop scrolling
• Add captions and/or text overlays to improve retention and watch time:
• Auto-captions or stylized subtitles
• Lyric or tagline highlights
• Simple calls to action (e.g., Follow Velvet Divide • Save • Share • Listen on Spotify)
• Handle basic sound polishing:
• Make sure music is clean and at a good loudness level for mobile
• Blend any ambient audio where needed (crowd noise, moments of talking, etc.)
• Apply color correction / grading for a modern, cinematic music video look
• Make sure everything is optimized for both Instagram Reels and TikTok:
• Safe text zones (not covered by UI buttons)
• Platform-friendly durations and file sizes

Deliverables
• 5 final reels, each:
• Vertical 9:16, MP4, ready to upload to Instagram Reels and TikTok
• Length: up to 60 seconds
• Optional (nice to have, but mention if you can):
• 1–2 alternate hook versions or text variations for A/B testing
• Thumbnail suggestions (frame grabs with text ideas for cover images)
• If possible: project files (Premiere / Final Cut / DaVinci) – not required, but appreciated

Because we don’t have a lot of experience in this area, we’ll also lean on your professional advice on things like ideal clip length, best performance angles, and strongest hooks.

Ideal Editor Profile

You are:
• Experienced with music videos and/or band/artist content
• Comfortable editing short-form vertical content for IG Reels and TikTok
• Strong with rhythm-based editing and syncing visuals to music
• Up to date on current Reels/TikTok trends (pace, style, text, memes—within reason)
• Able to suggest ideas (storyline, structure, transitions, text hooks), not just “follow instructions”
• Communicative, reliable, and open to 1–2 rounds of reasonable revisions per reel

Bonus points if you:
• Have worked with rock / alt / heavy / indie bands
• Can propose an overall content arc (e.g., 1 hype reel, 1 emotional reel, 1 behind-the-scenes, 2 performance bangers)

Important Details (Stuff I Might Not Know to Ask For)

Since I’m newer to this, I’d also like you to:
• Confirm export specs you’ll use (frame rate, resolution, bitrate) suitable for IG/TikTok
• Make sure licensed or royalty-free assets (if used for effects, overlays, etc.) are safe for commercial use
• Help ensure the reels won’t get flagged for technical reasons (wrong aspect ratio, low quality, weird audio, etc.)
