Film Editor for Adventure-Travel Documentary

Job ID: 38674259

Budget: $750 – $1,500 AUD

Job Title: Film Editor
Location: Bali, Indonesia
Employment Type: Contract (Full-Time)
About Us:
Stump-Jump Productions is looking to rapidly expand its post-production team in Bali. Following the production and release of Chasing Zephyr: Iconic Islands, a major shoot has been completed across Borneo. This ambitious project spans three seasons (Sabah, Sarawak, Kalimantan), each consisting of six episodes. With the Sabah season nearly complete and ready for release, we are seeking additional team members to help finish the Sarawak and Kalimantan episodes. Further shoots in Indonesia are planned for November, and a large shoot across the Americas will commence next April, all requiring rapid post-production.
This network-quality documentary series falls within the adventure-travel and special interest genres, presenting unique people and places that are often off the beaten path. The production is highly dynamic, with unexpected opportunities and multiple cameras capturing the action. In post-production, we work with up to three camera angles and five different sound channels. The series is unscripted, meaning that the post-production team plays a vital role in creating the narrative from extensive footage, dialogue, and visual cues.
Job Description:
As a Film Editor, you will be responsible for assembling raw footage into a coherent and compelling story. Working closely with the writer, director, producer, and assistant editor, you will ensure the film’s pacing, narrative structure, and emotional impact are achieved. Given the unscripted nature of our series, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the story based on visuals and dialogue, translating and paraphrasing complex dialogues (Bahasa, tribal languages, and broken English) and enhancing the overall narrative with music and foley. The footage is shot in log and must be properly graded, adding another layer of responsibility to ensure the final product is polished and network-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the writer, director, and producer to shape the narrative from raw, unscripted footage.
• Sync multiple camera angles (up to three) and sound channels (up to five).
• Assemble the edit from rough cuts to final delivery, focusing on the pacing, tone, and emotional impact of each episode.
• Translate and paraphrase dialogue from a mixture of Bahasa, tribal languages, and broken English.
• Provide appropriate music and foley to enhance the story’s mood and tone.
• Perform colour grading of footage shot in log format.
• Utilize Premiere Pro as the primary editing software; knowledge of After Effects, Frame.io, and sound syncing software is preferred.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Must be based in Bali.
• Fluent in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a deep understanding of English storytelling that can be reflected in your editing.
• Full technical proficiency in Premiere Pro. Experience with After Effects, Frame.io, syncing, and sound software is preferred.
• Track record of editing documentaries, especially those in the adventure-travel and special interest genres. Experience with unscripted content is highly desirable.
• Ability to provide music that complements and enhances the visual storytelling.
Remuneration:
• This is a contract position (full-time).
• Rate: Rp. 200,000 per final cut minute, with the potential for bonuses up to Rp. 100,000 per minute based on project outcomes.
• Higher pay rates will be considered for candidates with additional experience as a writer or director.
