The objective of this project is to design and simulate a DC motor speed control system using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The system will use a PID controller to regulate the motor's speed by adjusting the duty cycle of the PWM signal.
Key tasks include:
- Modeling the DC Motor System in Simulink, including electrical and mechanical components such as armature resistance, inductance, back EMF, and rotational inertia.
- Generating the PWM signal using a 555 Timer IC or equivalent, to control the motor speed.
- Implementing a PID controller to adjust the PWM duty cycle based on feedback from the motor speed.
- Simulating and testing the motor’s performance, ensuring the system achieves the desired speed with minimal overshoot, steady-state error, and fast response time.
- Documenting the process, including the design, simulation results, and performance evaluation.
The deliverable will be a fully functional Simulink model of the motor system with a working controller, performance metrics, and a final report.
