Realistic Leaf Vector Patterns
Budget: £10 – £20 GBP
Create Production-Ready Botanical Vector Artwork for Laser Cutting (1:35 Scale Fern)
Overview
We are developing a premium range of laser-cut scenic foliage for scale modellers under our brand DioramaForge – Scenix™ Laser.
We require an experienced vector illustrator / botanical illustrator to create a production-ready SVG of an English woodland fern suitable for CO₂ laser cutting on 200gsm card.
This is not a graphic design project. The artwork will become a commercial product and must be engineered for manufacture.
---
Objective
Create a highly detailed, botanically accurate fern that can be laser cut from 200gsm coloured paper/card and folded into a realistic three-dimensional fern for 1:35 scale military and railway dioramas.
The finished vector must combine:
botanical accuracy
manufacturability
structural strength
commercial appearance
---
Deliverables
Please supply:
SVG
Adobe Illustrator (.AI)
EPS
PDF proof
All artwork must remain fully editable.
---
Design Requirements
The fern should represent a realistic English woodland fern.
The fronds should have:
accurate botanical proportions
realistic taper
natural variation
realistic leaflet spacing
realistic rachis (central stem)
realistic pinnae (leaflets)
The finished product should look comparable to premium products from companies such as:
AK Interactive
Green Stuff World
Noch
---
Manufacturing Requirements
The design is intended for CO₂ laser cutting.
Please ensure:
no floating pieces
no disconnected leaflets
no overlapping duplicate paths
no unnecessary anchor points
no self-intersecting paths
no raster artwork
no automatic image tracing
Artwork must be clean production vector artwork.
---
Material
Material:
200gsm coloured card
Laser:
CO₂ laser cutter
---
Engineering Requirements
Because this will be laser cut, some features must be intentionally strengthened.
Please slightly exaggerate where necessary:
rachis thickness
leaflet attachment points
stem diameter
This should be done subtly so the fern still appears natural.
---
Product Layout
The final sheet should contain:
Large Fern
One complete rosette.
Medium Fern
One complete rosette.
Small Fern
One complete rosette.
Each rosette should consist of multiple individual fronds radiating from a reinforced central hub.
After cutting, each frond will be folded upward to form a realistic 3D fern.
---
Frond Requirements
Each frond should be a separate piece attached to the centre.
The fronds should include:
mature fronds
slightly younger fronds
curled fiddleheads (young fern shoots)
Natural variation is essential.
Avoid identical repeated fronds.
---
Scale
All artwork must be suitable for 1:35 scale.
The overall finished plants should represent realistic fern sizes commonly found in British woodland.
---
Style
The finished product should look like a premium commercial laser-cut modelling product rather than clip-art or decorative artwork.
The artwork should be suitable for sale worldwide.
---
Rights
Upon payment, all intellectual property and commercial rights transfer exclusively to DioramaForge.
The artwork may not be reused, resold, distributed, or incorporated into any other product by the designer.
---
Important
This is the first product in an entire laser-cut botanical range.
Successful work will likely lead to ongoing commissions covering:
ivy
oak leaves
beech
birch
maple
brambles
nettles
grasses
reeds
flowers
shrubs
climbing plants
vines
woodland ground cover
additional fern species
We are looking to build a long-term relationship with a skilled illustrator capable of producing premium, production-ready botanical vector artwork.
