Senior UI/UX Consultant – Discovery Phase for Public-Sector Website Redesign

We are seeking an experienced UI/UX consultant or digital strategy freelancer to lead the discovery and planning phase of a high-profile website redesign project for a well-known public-sector organization in Victoria.

Scope of Work:
UX audit and competitive benchmarking
Stakeholder interviews (marketing, IT, visitor engagement teams)
Development of user personas and user journey maps
Information architecture and content strategy recommendations
Accessibility review (WCAG 2.1 compliance focus)
Final output: Strategic digital brief & discovery report

This project will involve:
Conducting a comprehensive review of an existing public-facing website (structure, content, performance, accessibility).
Facilitating stakeholder engagement workshops (online and possibly in-person).
Developing strategic recommendations including content strategy, user personas, technology platform considerations, and high-level functional requirements.
Delivering a set of outputs that will feed into a future design and development RFT.

Ideal Candidate:
5+ years’ experience in UX research, digital strategy, or service design
Strong portfolio of past discovery/digital planning projects, ideally with government, nonprofit, or tourism organisations
Familiarity with Australian accessibility and privacy standards
Able to facilitate workshops and interviews independently
Strong documentation and communication skills

Start: Mid-Jun 2025
Duration: ~6–8 weeks
Estimated: 25–30 days of effort (flexible delivery)
Consultants need to be based in Australia.
