Citywide Street Naming Strategy
Budget: $10 – $100 USD
I am coordinating a large-scale urban development initiative that centres on street naming across the entire city. The goal is to create a coherent, culturally resonant set of names that improves everyday navigation and fits seamlessly into future infrastructure plans.
Scope
The assignment covers every unnamed or to-be-renamed roadway within municipal limits—this is not a one-off set of five or ten streets but a comprehensive, citywide effort. Because of the scale, I need a structured approach that balances creativity with practicality and complies with local naming regulations.
What I need from you
• A complete inventory of proposed street names organised by district or neighbourhood
• Clear naming rationales (historic, cultural, geographic or thematic) for each suggestion
• A quick-reference spreadsheet or database containing the proposed names, their meanings and pronunciation notes
• A concise report outlining the methodology you followed, any stakeholder feedback incorporated and guidance for council presentation
Acceptance criteria
• No duplicate or phonetically confusing names
• Each name must pass the city’s basic language, length and emergency-services legibility checks
• Deliverables submitted in both editable (Excel / Google Sheets) and PDF formats
If you have prior experience in urban toponymy, GIS, or community engagement for public-space projects, that will be a definite plus. Feel free to let me know how you would structure the work phases and expected turnaround times.
