UE4 to UE5 Project Upgrade with UI
Budget: $100 – $700 USD
I need an experienced Unreal Engine developer to:
Upgrade an existing UE4.27 project to UE5.6, ensuring it opens, runs, and packages successfully on Windows (Shipping build).
Add a minimal UI with two buttons:
Emulate Current Time (UK): adjusts sky/lighting to match the current time in the UK (Europe/London), including GMT/BST daylight-saving behavior. This must ignore the end user’s local timezone.
Day (10:00 AM): sets a fixed 10:00 AM scene state.
No new art; use the project’s existing sky/atmosphere/time-of-day setup (Directional Light, SkyAtmosphere, SkyLight, Volumetric Clouds, or equivalent). Keep the feature simple and robust.
Deliverables
UE5.6 project that compiles cleanly and packages to Windows (Shipping).
UMG UI with the two buttons above.
Smooth transitions (fade/lerp) when changing time-of-day (no popping).
Short migration report (1–2 pages) listing: plugins updated/replaced, deprecated nodes fixed, key project settings changed, notable visual differences and mitigations.
Readme with steps to open, build, package, and test the two buttons.
Acceptance Criteria
Project opens in UE 5.6.x without blocking errors.
PIE & packaged build both work; lighting and sky behave consistently in both.
“Emulate Current Time (UK)” computes Europe/London time at runtime (respecting DST where applicable) and sets sun/moon position & ambient light accordingly—independent of the user’s machine timezone.
“Day (10:00 AM)” reliably sets a 10:00 AM look with smooth transition.
No critical regressions in performance/visuals versus the 4.27 baseline.
Portable project (no hardcoded machine paths; clean folder).
Tech Notes
Target platform: Windows 10/11 (x64).
Rendering: UE5 defaults (Lumen/Nanite) acceptable if compatible; otherwise configure equivalent legacy paths.
Version-control friendly handover (exclude DerivedDataCache, Intermediate, Saved).
Implement in Blueprints if feasible; C++ only if necessary.
