Seeking a Unity Developer with experience in creating geolocation AR apps

Job ID: 37647576

Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD

We are looking for a Unity Developer with experience in creating geolocation AR apps in Unity. Experience with Vuforia is a plus. We have all the assets, and animations and have completed the login and registration elements of the app.

We have had trouble implementing geolocation with AR. The location tracking was unstable and would make the experience unplayable. The users would be led to the wrong location sometimes and the GPS signal would jump around. This also resulted in the experiences being broken as they were relying on the GPS signal being within the radius of the experience. We need help fixing this. The geolocation needs to be within 10 meters accuracy.

The app consists of 9 location points that are in a large park, the points have ample space (500-800m distance between the locations). The locations themselves have a minimum of 15m radius. The user needs to walk from one to the other point and needs to complete all 9 locations. Once the user completes a location, they get a clue that they need to solve to understand where the next location is. We have already implemented a system that shows the players how many locations they have already completed.

Currently, we are working with the AR+GPS location plugin for Unity (https://docs.unity-ar-gps-location.com/). We have had large problems with the app, the app would be 30-50m off and it broke the game. Some of the AR experiences were not working as they were supposed to. We have strong reasons to believe that most of the problems are caused by errors with reading the location. We also had problems with correctly identifying users’ orientation.

We would like to rebuild the AR and location part of the app with a new plugin (We are considering Vuforia, but are open to suggestions)

There are 3 features which we would like the developer to implement:
1) Set-up a fully new architecture with a new GPS plugin that connects AR.

2) Set up a plan B: The plan B is experiences being triggered through a QR code instead of being triggered with a location. This will work through the client setting up QR codes in the locations. Once these are scanned, AR experiences would be triggered. We need a developer to implement this. This will only be used in case the location element does not work.

Suggestions: Kalman filter - Experience with the implementation of the Kalman filter is appreciated, we believe this is a tool that could help us smooth out the GPS location

In case you need more information about the app, or want to look at our code, let us know, we need someone who can help build this. You will be working with 2 other Unity developers on this and will have the support of a project manager and a backend developer.

We would ideally like to have a Proof of concept within the first week that would work (first milestone) and then if this POC works, we will continue working with you to finish the app.

When applying for the job we would like to request some of your past projects, and if you have some with implemented Geo-Location to highlight them.
