Focus Simulator

Job ID: 33526111

Budget: $250 – $750 CAD

I want to create a first person 3D simulator for pulling focus with a virtual camera. I want the focus to be controlled through a midi dial. The aim of the simulator is to have an automated moving subject and/or automated moving camera and the user turns a dial to change the rendered focus distance with the aim of keeping the subject within the window of acceptable sharpness. The midi control needs to have a logrithmic ramp and hard limits for the minimum and maximum distance with a setting (F stops) to effect the size of the plane of focus depth of feild. Also want the depth of feild to fall off consistant with real world lens optics (this means that the acceptable sharpness extends 1/3 from the point of critical focus toward the camera and 2/3 towards infinity.)

If this is possible I have some strech goals for the simulator:

- Factoring in circle of confusion to create a system that keeps score of how well the user keeps the target subject sharp.
- selectable virtual lenses and cameras based on available specs for popular market equipment. (Essentially sensor size and resolution (determining circle of confusion) for cameras, and available F-stops, angle of view, and minimum focus distance for lenses.
- A window showing a side view of the subjects distance from camera with the ability to toggle measurements on and off.
- a window showing the virtual wheel with the ability to place colored markers at different distances with a toggle to view distance measurements on the wheel.

The above points are just gravy but the main goal for now is to create a demo where a midi controller dial can effect exponential focus in a first person simulation.

The models and textures are not important, anything that could be purchased online is fine for assets. The mechanics are the most important thing and creating a structute that can allow for replication of real world optics.
