Custom Web Platform UX/UI Designer
Budget: $25 – $50 USD
We're a Swiss tutoring company ready to upgrade from our WordPress/HubSpot setup to a modern, custom web platform. After years of growth, we need a designer who can take full ownership of reimagining our user experience from the ground up.
About the Project: We've been running successfully on a basic tech stack, but our users deserve better. We're redesigning \~50 screens across five user types (students, tutors, parents, support staff, and admins) for both desktop and mobile.
The Challenge: We have lots of ideas, user feedback, and requirements – but we need an experienced designer to help us turn these into clear user flows and a cohesive experience. This isn't about executing someone else's vision; it's about partnering with us to define what the product should be.
What You'll Do:
* Own the complete UX/UI strategy – from user flows to final designs
* Work with us to translate business requirements into user-centered design
* Map user journeys across multiple user types and their interactions
* Create a comprehensive, scalable design system in Figma (desktop \+ mobile)
* Build reusable components our developers can implement efficiently
* Refine our branding (we have basics but need an upgrade)
Bonus Points:
* Logo and brand identity work (we're open to a refresh)
* German language skills (helpful for understanding the Swiss market)
* Experience with EdTech, marketplace platforms, or multi-sided products
* Background in design strategy, not just execution
What We're Looking For:
* A strategic thinker who can help shape product direction, not just make things pretty
* Someone comfortable with ambiguity and collaborative discovery
* Designers who ask good questions and challenge assumptions
* System thinkers who build for scalability
* Clear communicators who can explain design decisions
What We Provide:
* Direct collaboration with founders – small team, fast decisions
* Years of user feedback and real-world insights
* Trust in your expertise – we need guidance, not just execution
* Experienced developer who knows Figma and loves working with good design systems
* Flexibility and openness to your recommendations
Working Together:
* Hourly engagement with regular weekly check-ins
* Async-friendly workflow (video calls when needed, but mostly Figma \+ Whatsapp)
* You set the pace, we provide fast feedback
* Initial project scope: 6-10 weeks estimated, but flexible based on your approach
* Long-term potential: This is phase one. We plan ongoing feature expansion and improvements – looking for someone who wants to grow with the product
Project Details:
* Rate: Please share your hourly rate
* Commitment: \[20-40\] hours per week ideal
* Start: ASAP or when you're available
* Deliverables: User flows, wireframes, design system, desktop \+ mobile designs, brand refresh guidelines
To Apply, Please Share:
1. Portfolio with 2-3 relevant examples:
* Design systems you've created
* Multi-user platforms or complex flows
* Any projects where you shaped strategy, not just executed
2. Your approach: A few sentences on how you'd tackle a project like this (especially the discovery phase)
3. Logistics: Your hourly rate, availability, and estimated timeline
4. A question for us: What would you need to know or have access to for this to be successful?
Please don't send generic proposals – we read every application carefully and respond to thoughtful ones.
Why This Could Be Interesting:
* Real impact on Swiss education – thousands of students and tutors
* Greenfield opportunity to define the product from scratch (while learning from real usage)
* Autonomy and ownership – your design decisions matter
* Potential for long-term collaboration as the product evolves
* Small team \= no bureaucracy, your work ships fast
We're excited to find the right partner who can help us build something our users will love.
