Reinstall Custom Windows Desktop Software

Job ID: 39790135

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

I have a legacy Windows desktop application that was written specifically for my business. The original developer has since retired, and when I try to reinstall the software on a fresh machine I’m met with the error message “No control record found.”
All original installation files and the valid licence key are on hand, so nothing needs to be reverse-engineered or cracked—I simply need the program installed and functional again.

You will likely need to:
• Analyse the existing installer and configuration files
• Identify why the control record (or equivalent config/database entry) is not being generated or detected
• Apply the correct fix—whether that’s editing an INI/registry entry, restoring a missing database file, or updating dependencies—so the application launches and operates exactly as it used to

A successful hand-over means I can double-click the shortcut, the program opens without errors, and all its usual features run normally on my Windows system. Remote work is fine; I can provide screen-share access or zipped copies of the installer and licence files as soon as we start.
