Fix Security Onion Install

Job ID: 40554080

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

I keep running into the “VERR_ALREADY_EXISTS” error every time I try to bring Security Onion up inside VirtualBox. The guest OS is simply a Security Onion ISO; on the host side I’m working in a straight Virtual Box environment (that’s the only definite information I have about the host OS right now). I’m not certain which VirtualBox release I’m on and, for the moment, I’d like to push ahead without spending extra time verifying that—if it matters, please factor a quick check into your troubleshooting flow rather than walking me through it step-by-step.

Your task is to remote in (or guide me live), identify what’s colliding and triggering VERR_ALREADY_EXISTS, and hand back a clean-booting, fully installed Security Onion VM. Once it powers on and reaches its setup console without errors, we’re done. If you can get that result quickly and document any tweaks you applied—disk image moves, UUID fixes, XML edits, whatever—you’ll be first in line for several follow-up virtualization and blue-team lab projects I have queued up for the next few days.

Acceptance criteria:
• Security Onion boots in VirtualBox with no VERR_* errors.
• Network interfaces are detected and the initial setup wizard appears.
• You provide a short summary of the steps taken so I can replicate the fix on another host later.

I’m ready to start as soon as you are.
