Fix MySQL-Application Connection Error

I’ve just installed both MySQL and my application on a Windows machine and the two refuse to talk to each other. The database service is running, yet every time the app tries to connect it throws a generic “unable to connect to database” message.

What I need from you is a quick, methodical troubleshooting session that pinpoints the root cause—whether it’s an incorrect connection string, missing privileges, a blocked port, or a mis-configured MySQL instance—and then applies the proper fix. Once you’re done, the application must launch and read/write data normally without manual intervention.
