University Humanities Textbook Localization
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I have a series of university-level Humanities and Social Sciences textbooks that must be culturally adapted for a new target region. The source files are in English; the target language and culture will be shared with you once we begin, but expect the need for careful transcreation rather than a literal translation.
What I need from you is a full localization pass that keeps academic rigor intact while replacing region-specific examples, idioms, imagery, and references with equivalents that resonate with students in the destination culture. This includes rewriting activities, discussion prompts, case studies, and any assessment items so they remain pedagogically sound. Where data or statistics appear, substitute authoritative local sources whenever possible.
Deliverables
• A fully localized manuscript for each textbook in editable format (Word or InDesign IDML, matching the source layout tags).
• An accompanying change log that explains every cultural adaptation and cites replacement references.
• A glossary and translation memory (preferred format: SDLTM or TMX) to ensure future consistency.
I work with a small internal production team, so please be prepared to collaborate with our editor on terminology checks and respond promptly to queries. Familiarity with CAT tools, academic style guides (APA, MLA), and accessibility considerations (alt-text for images, plain-language footnotes where needed) will be valued highly.
If you have successfully localized higher-education content before—especially in the Humanities or Social Sciences—let me see a sample chapter. Once the first book is approved we can roll straight into the remaining volumes.
