I'm producing a documentary (my second) about the socio-economic effects of ecological food reform in Sri Lanka, with a focus on tea farms and fisherman issues. As I'll spend a significant amount of time on-site, I require a bilingual translator fluent in both Sinhalese and Tamil (+ English) to facilitate live conversations with locals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate live conversations in Sinhalese and Tamil
- Ensure clear understanding of local dialects
- Assist in building rapport with locals
- Help navigate cultural nuances and sensitivities
The ideal candidate should have:
- Native-level fluency in both Sinhalese and Tamil
- Previous experience translating for documentaries or research projects
- Strong communication and intercultural skills
- Understanding of the socio-political landscape in Sri Lanka
- Willingness to be on-site for the duration of the project
- be able to acquire contacts to relevant people who can share their experience in the movie (also incognito)
- responsible for planning the trip and interviews schedule
The job is for approx 100 hours of work on various sites in Sri Lanka as of now.. We are coming for 4 weeks and we want 50% relax and 50% of movie shootings.
This is non profit movie initiative.
Please include a detailed project proposal in your application showcasing your relevant experience, understanding of the subject matter, and how you plan to approach the translation work.
