Retype & Label Historic Manuscripts
Budget: €12 – €18 EUR
I have between 101 and 200 handwritten manuscripts that exist only as scanned images. Each page needs to be re-keyed verbatim into a clean, proof-read text file (Word or plain UTF-8) and then enriched with a single piece of metadata: the author’s full name.
You will work from the scans I supply via a shared cloud folder. Accuracy is essential—both for the transcription itself and for the author label that must appear in a clearly marked header at the top of each file. If you prefer to start with OCR, that’s fine, but every line must ultimately be reviewed by eye and corrected before delivery.
Deliverables
• One text file per manuscript, named to match the original scan
• Author information inserted in the header field “Author:”
• A simple index spreadsheet listing file name and author for quick reference
Acceptance criteria
• 100 % of words match the source handwriting
• Consistent formatting: no extra styling beyond paragraph breaks
• Author names spelled exactly as provided in the accompanying reference list
If you have prior experience with archival transcription, paleography, or similar projects, let me know—that will speed onboarding. I’m ready to start as soon as I find the right collaborator and will be available for questions throughout the project.
