We are a fiber-optic training school seeking a highly experienced, professional fiber-optic fusion splicing instructor to deliver remote, live weekend training sessions for our students via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
This is a paid contract position — perfect for an active fiber optic technician or field engineer who wants to share their expertise and earn supplemental income on weekends.
Our student group is mixed-level, ranging from complete beginners picking up a fusion splicer for the first time to students with some prior fiber optic knowledge. The ideal instructor can adapt their teaching style to meet all learners where they are.

TRAINING CURRICULUM
The 4-week program covers the following topics. The trainer is expected to prepare structured, easy-to-follow lesson plans for each module.
Week 1 — Machine Introduction and Display Menu
- Unboxing, parts identification, and full setup of the AI-5 Pro
- Powering on/off and navigating the 5-inch color touchscreen
- Complete walkthrough of the AI-5 Pro main display menu
- Splice program settings: SM, MM, DS, and custom programs
- Arc calibration overview and electrode replacement
Week 2 — Splice Interface Introduction
- Introduction to the splice interface and live camera views
- Reading and interpreting fiber alignment images (X and Y axes)
- Understanding splice loss estimates and error messages on screen
- Auto mode vs. Manual mode — when and how to use each
- Reviewing splice records and result history stored on the machine
Week 3 — Hands-On Fiber Preparation and Physical Splicing
- Proper fiber stripping, cleaning, and cleaving techniques
- Loading fiber into the splicer — bare fiber, pigtails, and drop cable
- Performing a complete end-to-end fusion splice step by step
- Heat shrink sleeve application using the 18-second heating cycle
- Most common beginner mistakes and how to correct them
Week 4 — Troubleshooting, Testing and Final Review
- Diagnosing high splice loss — root causes and corrections
- Cleaning and maintaining the V-groove and internal lens
- Using the built-in Bluetooth app for data sync and record management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Hands-on experience with the Signal Fire AI-5 Pro fusion splicer (or equivalent Signal Fire models: AI-5, AI-6C, AI-7C, AI-9)
- Minimum 3 years of professional fiber optic splicing experience
- Proven experience teaching or training others — classroom, field, or online
- Must own your own optical fiber fusion splicer for live demonstrations during each session
- Must have TWO (2) cameras available for every session:
Camera 1 — Facing the instructor at all times
Camera 2 — Dedicated to the splicer machine, giving students a clear close-up view of every physical step
- Reliable high-speed internet connection for uninterrupted live sessions
- Strong verbal communication skills in English
- FULL AVAILABILITY is strictly required — Eastern USA Time (ET), every Saturday and Sunday 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM for all 4 consecutive weekends.
