Drill Bit Failure Analysis
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
We have experienced failures in our drill bits and drill rods during use. We are looking for a professional engineer to perform 3D dynamic force analysis and thermal imaging analysis to help identify the failure causes and propose improvement suggestions.
Specific tasks include:
Perform 3D dynamic force analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to identify potential issues such as stress concentration, fatigue, and vibration in the drill bit and rod;
Conduct thermal analysis on the drill bit and rod to identify factors such as overheating or uneven temperature distribution that may contribute to failure;
Provide force analysis diagrams (including stress, strain, fatigue life, etc.) and thermal analysis diagrams (temperature distribution, heat conduction paths, etc.);
Deliver a detailed analysis report, explaining the failure causes and providing optimization recommendations (e.g., materials, structure, or process).
Thermal analysis note:
Since we might not be able to provide detailed thermal parameters, we would like to discuss with you how to estimate the related parameters based on the existing working conditions. If you have any suggestions or experience in this area, please include them in your proposal.
Materials we will provide:
3D CAD models of the drill bit and rod (IGS format);
Known material parameters (e.g., strength, modulus of elasticity, etc.);
Operating conditions (e.g., rotation speed, thrust, etc.);
Failure case photos and brief descriptions (including failure location and time).
Expected deliverables:
Dynamic force simulation result files;
Thermal analysis results (temperature distribution maps, etc.);
Analysis report (failure causes and optimization suggestions).
