Synthetic Outdoor Camping Rug Design -- 2
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
I’m developing a waterproof, weather-resistant rug specifically for camping and picnic use and need a textile designer who can turn this idea into a production-ready concept. The material must be 100 % synthetic—think polypropylene, polyester, or a blend you can justify for durability, quick drying, and easy cleaning—while staying comfortable enough to sit or lie on for extended periods.rug will have a top and bottom layer with a center core of padding. Not to exceed 1/4” thickness.
Here’s where I’m at:
• Size target is roughly 9'×10', open to suggestions if another footprint optimizes fabric yield or weight.
• The construction technique (woven, knitted, braided, laminated, etc.) is flexible; your expertise should guide the final choice based on strength, packability, and cost.
• Colour palette should complement natural settings yet hide dirt—subdued earth tones or a reversible pattern could work well.
• It needs to roll compactly and include snap connection points to stay folded when being rolled in. Material must by strong and durable and able to be reeled in, pulled in by a motor. .
Deliverables I expect:
Prototype of design. Single or multiple TBD
• Digital pattern and colourway files (AI or PSD plus print-ready PDFs)
• Full material specification with yarn denier, weave/knit density, finishing treatments, and performance test standards you recommend (UV, abrasion, water-repellency)
• A concise tech pack that a mill can quote from, including tolerance charts and suggested finishing methods
• If possible, a short list of mills or suppliers capable of producing small pilot runs
Acceptance criteria: final files must be clear enough for a factory to sample without further clarification and all specifications must rely solely on synthetic fibres.
