HCI & Cybersecurity report

Job ID: 32798731

Budget: £20 – £250 GBP

I require an academic report to be written.

OVERVIEW
The purpose of this report is to explore the issues around the human elements of cyber security in the context of human computer interaction. You will perform a user research exercise and design a prototype for a secure interactive application, using appropriate user experience (UX) design principles, evidenced in a 3000-word report which also serves to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of human-computer interaction (HCI), UX design principles and practical approaches in the context of HCI and Cyber Security supported by research.

TASKS
To carry out a major review of security and system protection, examining the various available solutions ensuring social, ethical and legal aspect are taken into considerations.

The main submission is a single individual 3,000-word report containing all the tasks and focussing on the role of HCI Principles in Cyber Security. You must use the case study below:

CASE STUDY
WiFi Things: Your Smart Home (WTYSH)

WTYSH have recruited your team as the UX/UI designers and development team for their new app.

The WTYSH app will be an application that users access through their mobile devices to manage the devices in their smart home. There are a range of WTYSH devices including light bulbs, speakers, central heating thermostats, robotic hoovers and mowers and CCTV cameras all linked via home wifi Networks. The app will allow users to manage routines, view and record CCTV footage, turn devices on and off etc. It will require that users register and log onto the app to use it. The app is free for the first month and then users will pay a £2.99 per month fee for ongoing usage. This fee will allow the users to store CCTV footage in the WTYSH cloud and access usage reports.

The app must allow users to carryout a range of tasks as outlined above and due to the processing of personal data, the company have asked you to pay particular attention to security aspects in addition to providing an outstanding User Experience.

THE REPORT
Your report should consider the following guidelines and contain the following sections as a minimum:

• Title page and Abstract
• Introduction
o The nature (purpose and scope) of the report and the topic should be briefly outlined and defined alongside details of how the paper is organised.

• Task 1: This section should present an overview of issues, theories and principles relating to human computer interaction (HCI) and cyber security. Key to this discussion should be consideration of the potential role of HCI/User Experience design (UX) principles, tools and techniques in mitigating risk. The use of contemporary research to support your arguments will be beneficial.

• Task 2: In this section, you will select, justify and use a range of UX tools and techniques to research user needs, identify requirements and present potential solutions to a security related problem presented in the case study. Your work should be supported by research as appropriate. This section will contain the following three sections:

o User Research
o Requirements Specification
o Potential Solutions

• Task 3: In this section you will present and justify a selection of wireframe design prototypes for a secure interactive application to solve the problem discussed in section 2. Your design decisions should be justified and cross-reference the key points and arguments made in tasks 1 and 2. This section will contain the following:

o Annotated Wireframe Prototypes
• Conclusions
o A brief concluding paragraph bringing together the key points and findings of your work
• References
o A full list of references used within the paper should be provided. The Harvard Style of referencing to be used within the report.
• Appendices
o Any additional material that is discussed in the body of your report.

Word count 3000 words (+/- 10%) excl references and appendices. Presented in a formal reporting style, without the use of personal pronouns.
