Documentary Editor & Story Producer

Freelance | Remote | Immediate start

We are looking for an experienced documentary editor and story producer to turn a substantial body of completed research, recorded meetings, official documents, emails and first-hand testimony into a powerful evidence-led documentary.

The core investigation, chronology and story development have already been completed. This role is about bringing the material together, finding the strongest narrative and creating a documentary that is clear, human, compelling and difficult to ignore.

You will work with an organised archive containing:

recorded meetings and transcripts;
developed story ideas and documentary chapters;
official correspondence and documents;
detailed timelines;
professional reports;
first-hand testimony;
identified clips and supporting evidence.

Your role will include:

shaping the final documentary structure;
turning the existing research into a strong, coherent story;
selecting and editing the most powerful footage and evidence;
creating paper edits, scripts, rough cuts and final sequences;
identifying where narration, graphics, interviews or reconstructions are needed;
creating both long-form documentary content and shorter social films;
working with researchers, motion designers and legal reviewers.

We are looking for someone with strong experience in documentary, factual television, current affairs or high-quality digital storytelling.

You should be:

an outstanding visual storyteller;
confident structuring complex long-form narratives;
experienced in editing meetings, interviews and documentary evidence;
decisive about what should be included and removed;
able to create emotional impact without sensationalising;
careful with facts, quotations and context;
skilled in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid or equivalent software.

The material is already powerful. We are not looking for artificial drama or exaggerated editing.
