WhatsApp Media Recovery and Transfer
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
Hello, I need help recovering and transfering WhatsApp media.
I have been religiously saving my WhatsApp data/internal storage (by way of Google Drive back up) for the past 10 years or so, transferring the data every time I change phones.
Yesterday, I tried transferring said data via QR code tranfer to a new device (it seems to be the newest transfer feature used by Whatsapp, one which avoids using the Google Drive backup feature typically used in the past). However, I kept receiving the following error message: "Something went wrong. Please restart the process."
It kept failing, so I left it at that, thinking my data was still intact. To my surprise, all media in my phone has now disappeared from my chats (but not the chats in text form per se, they are still there ).
When I go to Settings >Storage and Data>Manage Storage, there are very few MBs of data left anymore, in the "internal storage" of my phone (there used to be GBs of data). However when I go to Settings>Chats>Chat Back Up, it seems my Google Drive backup from yesterday still exists!!! (See attached files).
I'd like to at least recover the media which used to be on my phone (before I attempt yet another transfer to the new device).
What should I do now?
Should I:
1- Click "back up" in Settings>Chats>Chat back up) hoping it doesn't override the Google Drive that apparently contains GBs of saved media?
OR
2- Delete WhatsApp and reinstall it hoping it can access yesterday's Google Drive backup?
Since I've been having issues with the QR transfer feature, I would like to ensure I can use the Google Drive backup this time. How can I ensure this happens?
Thank you.
Thank you for your help & time!
