Enable Freeview on DVD Recorders

Job ID: 40041653

Budget: £20 – £250 GBP

I have five DVD recorders, each with its own internal tuner, yet none of them will currently lock on to the usual UK Freeview channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and the rest). What I need now is clear, practical guidance that will get every unit reliably receiving those services again.

Here’s the situation so far
• All five recorders report a tuner, but they either return “no signal” or pick up only a handful of shopping channels.
• I’m uncertain whether all machines are sharing the same aerial feed or if each has ended up on its own run of coax.
• I’m open to adding an external solution—splitter, signal amplifier, standalone Freeview box, whatever makes the most sense—but I’d like your recommendation before I buy anything.

What I’d like from you
1. A brief assessment (after a few follow-up questions or photos if needed) of why the current signal chain is failing.
2. A shopping list of any extra kit required—e.g. aerial upgrade, powered splitter, HDMI/RF modulators—priced and prioritised.
3. A step-by-step setup plan that lets me:
• connect everything correctly,
• run the right tuning sequence on each recorder, and
• confirm each channel is available and recording as expected.
4. Up to one hour of remote support (Zoom, Teams, or phone) while I carry out the fix so minor snags are sorted on the spot.

If you have hands-on experience with Freeview distribution, RF splitting, or repurposing older DVD/HDD recorders, you’ll fly through this. I’d like to wrap it up this week, so let me know your availability and how you typically structure the diagnostic call.
