QNAP QuTS ZFS NAS Setup
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
I have a QNAP TVS-1282T3 ready on my rack and the drives are already in place, so no physical work is required. My priority is simply to get this NAS fully configured (“set up NAS” was my answer to the purpose question) and running QuTS hero with its Z-filesystem, and/or RAID-6. The system will hold mainly personal content such as photos and everyday documents, so data integrity, snapshots and a clear backup strategy are important.
The NAS has:
8*10TB hard drives
2*512GB SSD
2*256GB SSD
Here is what I need from you:
• Install or migrate the box to QuTS hero, ensuring the latest stable firmware is in place.
• Create an optimal ZFS storage pool, RAID-6 volumes and shared folders sized for future growth.
• Configure user accounts, permissions and SMB/AFP/NFS shares so Windows and iPhones on my network can reach the data immediately.
• Verify health monitoring, SMART alerts and email notifications so I get early warnings.
• Provide a brief, plain-language hand-over document summarising the settings and the commands used, so I can repeat or adjust them later if needed.
A remote session over Microsoft Quick Assist is fine; I will be at the console to reboot or confirm anything that requires local access. Once all items above are complete and I can read/write files from my desktop, the job is done.
