Insurance Agency CPA

Job ID: 40198706

Budget: $8 – $15 USD

We are seeking an experienced U.S.-based Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to support our growing insurance agency on a freelance or fractional basis. This role requires a strong command of U.S. tax accounting, GAAP, and regulatory compliance, with hands-on experience in commission-based businesses—preferably within the insurance or financial services industry. The CPA will serve as a trusted financial partner to leadership, ensuring our financial structure is compliant, tax-efficient, and scalable as the organization grows.

Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing federal, state, and local tax filings; managing quarterly estimates and year-end tax planning; and ensuring ongoing compliance with IRS and state regulations. The CPA will oversee accounting related to insurance commissions, overrides, advances, and chargebacks, reconcile carrier statements, and ensure accurate revenue recognition across Medicare, ACA, life, annuity, and ancillary product lines. This role will also advise on entity structuring, multi-entity accounting, contractor (1099) versus employee (W-2) classifications, and agent compensation models.

In addition, the CPA will support monthly and quarterly financial reporting, provide clear and reliable P&L, balance sheet, and cash-flow insights, and offer proactive tax and financial guidance to leadership. The ideal candidate communicates complex financial matters in plain English, operates with high integrity and confidentiality, and is comfortable working independently in a remote, advisory capacity. Prior experience with insurance agencies, brokerages, or commission-driven organizations is strongly preferred.

This is an ongoing freelance engagement with flexible hours, designed for a CPA who values long-term partnership over transactional work and who can bring clarity, confidence, and strategic insight to our financial operations.
