This assignment covers day-to-day system administration for a small yet business-critical estate that runs side-by-side Windows Server and Linux servers. I rely on each machine to stay patched, monitored, backed up and documented, so the core objective is simple: keep everything healthy and predictable while making improvements that reduce risk.
Scope of work
– Windows Server (2019/2022) with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and occasional Hyper-V guests
– Linux (mainly Ubuntu LTS and CentOS) hosting web stacks in Apache/Nginx, Docker containers and a handful of cron-driven services
– Network-level touches such as VPN endpoints, firewall rule edits and certificate renewals whenever they intersect with server upkeep
– Routine security hardening and log review; escalate anything suspicious straight away
Expected deliverables
• Weekly health report that lists updates applied, incidents handled and current uptime metrics
• A tested backup-and-restore run once per month, recorded step by step
• Change documentation stored in the Confluence space I provide, so every tweak is reproducible
What I need to see in your bid is straightforward—your experience running both Windows and Linux environments of comparable size or complexity. Mention the tools you lean on (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Zabbix, Grafana, etc.) and any similar projects you have kept online over time.
The arrangement can grow into a long-term retainer if the first month runs smoothly and the reports meet the acceptance criteria above.
