Job ID: 40010666

Budget: $10 – $30 AUD

Fix Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V Host Freezing on Shutdown + VM Boot/Integration Issues

Description:
I need an experienced Windows Server / Hyper-V administrator to diagnose and fix stability issues on a physical Windows Server 2012 Standard host (build 9200). The server is running the RTM build with no cumulative updates installed, and is experiencing the following problems:

Symptoms:

Host gets stuck on “Shutting down…” with spinning circle and never completes

All windows Hyper-V VMs freeze on “Stopping…”

One Windows Server 2012 guest VM (WSUs server) hangs at the Windows logo with spinning dots

Hyper-V Manager shows “Degraded – Integration Services upgrade required”

Hard shutdown required to reboot host

Windows Update reports “No applicable updates” (OS is out of support)

Possible Causes (to be confirmed by the freelancer):

Missing critical Hyper-V stability updates and rollups for Server 2012

VMMS / VSS service deadlocks

Corrupted or outdated Integration Services

Storage or NIC driver issues

Pending Windows Updates inside VMs

Damaged VM boot files

What I Need Done:

1. Diagnose the Hyper-V host stability issue

2. Install the required offline Microsoft Update Catalog rollups for Server 2012 to stabilize Hyper-V

3. Verify and repair Hyper-V services (VMMS, VSS, vmbus, storage stack)

Ensure VSS writers are healthy

Ensure no deadlocked VM states

4. Fix the VM that hangs at the spinning logo

Repair boot records

Resolve pending updates

Repair integration services if needed

5. Update Integration Services for all VMs (or disable/repair them if corrupted)

6. Check the host hardware drivers (storage controller + NIC drivers)

7. Provide recommendations for long-term stability (migration plan optional)

Environment:

Windows Server 2012 Standard, Build 6.2 (9200)

Hyper-V role enabled

Several VMs running Windows Server versions 2012 and above

Bare-metal hardware (provide details once job begins)

Deliverables:

Fully stable Hyper-V host that can shut down and restart normally

VMs that start/stop cleanly

Broken VM fixed and booting normally

Integration Services working correctly

Summary report of what was fixed and what was updated
