CentOS Server Data Migration

Job ID: 39937400

Budget: ₹12,500 – ₹37,500 INR

I’m moving an aging Supermicro data server to a brand-new HP box running the latest CentOS. The job covers a full lift-and-shift of more than 5 TB of data—mostly file shares served over Samba—along with every local user account.

Here’s what I need:

• Provision the new HP server with the newest CentOS build, applying best-practice partitioning, RAID and network settings for high-throughput file service.
• Copy all file and document data (>5 TB) from the old machine, preserving ownership, permissions and extended ACLs so that existing Samba shares behave identically.
• Migrate local user accounts (passwd, shadow, group, home directories, quotas if any) so users can log in or access shares without noticing the change.
• Validate the migration: checksum spot-checks on data, permission tests, and live user acceptance during a scheduled cut-over window.
• Produce a concise rollback plan and post-migration documentation covering key configs, mount points, and service start-up routines.

SSH access to both machines will be provided; downtime must be minimized, so a staged sync (rsync/‐‐update then delta sync during cut-over) is preferred. Familiarity with CentOS, rsync, SELinux, and Samba tuning will be critical.

Deliverables are the fully operational HP server, clean data transfer with intact permissions, migrated user accounts, and the handover docs.

Prefer on site deployment. Location Navi Mumbai India. The server can be worked offline.
