iCloud Shared Album Recovery Assistance

I'm in need of assistance to recover a disappeared folder after I switched off the Shared Albums option in the iCloud settings. My problem is that as soon as I toggled this off, the folder disappeared from my desktop, and despite checking my trash/recycle bin, I am unable to locate it. While the toggle was off I changed to another folder and completely lost the track of the initial folder.
Key job requirements are:
