Lead Systems Administrator - Linux/PHP/Windows - 4 week trial

We are looking for the next great addition to our international team on a 4 week trial basis. As Lead Systems Administrator you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of all IT systems within the organization.

To perform these duties, you will need to work as the primary point of contact for systems issues, and you will need to either perform administrative tasks yourself, or assign them to a member of our operations team for resolution. In all cases, you will be responsible for ensuring the work gets done in a proper, and expedient manner.

Additionally, you will ensure the efficient operation of the IT department, by analyzing and optimizing processes, developing new processes and procedures, and working with team members to ensure they can complete their work effectively.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage a large set of Windows and Linux virtual hosts
Manage a set of Windows and Linux “bare metal” hosts
Directly work to configure and maintain servers, and in some cases distribute work to team members and follow-up to ensure completion
Ensure reliable network operation of over 100 hosted websites
Coordinate with Plugins, Web Development and other managers to ensure optimal service
Directly work with high profile clients in the event of major issues
Ensure servers efficiently provisioned and patched
Ensure servers are secure
Document and design server architectures as needed


QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

4-year degree in Computer Science or relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience

ACTIVITIES

Provide full life-cycle development including design, development, testing and implementation of projects that support business goals.
Take ownership of projects/tasks/issues and work them through completion.
Monitor production applications, supporting applications and integrated web services via production monitoring solutions.
Identify process improvements and enhancements to existing business and IT processes that will increase operating efficiencies.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

4+ years experience managing Linux and Windows servers
2+ years experience in a leadership role in the IT space
2+ years experience managing production websites on Linux
CPanel, WHM and other web hosting technologies
Internet networking, i.e. HTTP, DNS, Email etc.
Ability to work directly with service providers to solve problems with network as they arrive
Experience working with MySQL databases
Proven experience diagnosing and resolving problems
Experience leading others in the development and deployment of mid-to-large size projects
Familiarity with testing methodologies and tools
Familiarity with OpenShift / Docker
Git Version Control Experience
Familiar with agile principles, processes, and methods such as iterative and incremental development, continuous integration, test-driven development (TDD), unit testing, code refactoring, pair programming, and Scrum ceremonies
Web backup and security tools
Nice-to-have: Experience with major PHP frameworks and templating engines
