Fixing NPC Spell Purchase Screen Issue in Java-based MMORPG
Budget: $70 – $100 USD
**Description**:
I’m looking for an experienced developer to fix a specific issue in a large Java-based MMORPG game. The game involves complex NPC interactions, and currently, the spell purchase screen does not appear after interacting with an NPC that trades spells for magic materials.
**Background**:
This game is inspired by the Diablo-style, Ultima-Online games from 1998~2002. While I am developing it as a hobby, it is also a profitable business. In my country, there is a high demand for customized versions of this game, and I’ve already seen significant success. I am looking to hire freelancers for specific tasks, but I’m also searching for a long-term collaborator who could become a sustainable partner in this journey.
**Task**:
Resolve the issue where the spell purchase UI fails to appear after triggering the NPC interaction (via the `xchgspell` action).
Budget: $100 (This is for this specific task only.)
**Future Work**:
This is just one of many tasks in the project. The game is large, with ongoing bug fixes and feature implementations needed. If this task is completed successfully, there will be plenty of opportunities for further work.
**Preferred Skills**:
- Strong understanding of game development, especially MMORPGs
- Familiarity with reverse engineering
- Experience with Java and object-oriented programming
- Game server administration
**Additional Information**:
- The game client has encrypted files, including strings, descriptions, graphics, and sprites. However, no need to worry—tools for decryption already exist, thanks to many developers in the community. You can easily import, extract, and apply them as needed.
- Good communication is essential, as I’d like regular updates on progress.
- We have a test environment set up for you to work with, and specific testing procedures will be provided.
While the game was built with older technology, for a senior-level Java developer, the tasks should be straightforward. The nature of game development means familiarity with a variety of technologies is required, but the challenges are manageable for someone with the right experience.
If you’re passionate about game development and are looking for a long-term collaboration, this could be a great opportunity. I look forward to working with the right developer!
