Structural calculations for a vaulted ceiling and windowed gable.
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I am looking for a State of Oregon licensed PE to perform and stamp the following two calculations for a retroactive ADU permit in Portland. The deadline for the work is 10 days (including weekends) from the day the bid is accepted.
I am only accepting bids from freelancers who are PE-licensed in the State of Oregon with a minimum of 96% completed projects and a minimum of ten reviews. If you do not meet the above criteria, please don't bid on this project.
Please provide your verifiable PE licensing information for the State of Oregon as part of your bid as well as a confirmation that you understand the 10-day deadline.
Upon project acceptance, I will provide higher resolutions scans of the original 1994 plans and photographs (included here as average quality PDFs) as well as the basic structure in AutoCAD files.
PROJECT DETAILS:
1. Provide calculations which show how added gable windows above the entry doors have not compromised the original lateral bracing system.
This will require a comparison of calculations of the lateral bracing system of the original (windowless) gable with calculations of the lateral bracing system of the modified (with windows) gable.
--The original gable had very minimal lateral bracing, with flat 2x4s overlapping the gable sill by 5/8" on top of the lower T1-11 sheathing and attached to the gable T1-11 sheathing.
--The modified gable with windows has been strengthened by having the window framing connecting to the sheathing, strengthened laterally by connections to the gable rafter, the roof ridge, the vaulted ceiling ridge, and the vaulted ceiling hangers which extend laterally throughout the structure.
2. Provide calculations which show how the removal of the ceiling joists shown in the original permit drawings from 1978 have not compromised the structural load path.
This will require a calculation comparing structural load path calculations for the original ceiling (with all ceiling joists intact) with the structural load path calculations of the modified ceiling (with joists 2 and 4 removed and joist 3 strengthened with a triple joist.)
--The original ceiling was standard construction 2x6s on 24-inch centers, with 2x4 hangers connecting each ceiling joist to the roof ridge.
--The vaulted ceiling is, along with the center triple joist, additionally strengthened by hangers to the roof ridge and from the ceiling joists to roof rafters, as well as trusses connecting the vaulted ceiling rafters from the roof ridge to the room ceiling joists.
