Let us look at the problem of plane elasticity, in the case of plane stress without body forces, as shown in
Figure 1. The coordinates (given in meters), the thickness h, and the material constants (ν, E) are given in
Figure 1. It is known that the the boundary conditions, both u and v are fixed at x = 0. Edges (4-3, 3-2) are
free of stresses, and 1-2 edge has a distributed load 6 kN/m. Solve the problem with Galerkin method.
