Shipping Container Barn Construction

Job ID: 40308153

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I am planning a workshop/storage structure in Franklin County, NC and would like to see whether this concept is structurally feasible and what it would cost for engineering and stamped drawings.

Project concept

I have three shipping containers:

Two 40-ft containers on the sides
One 45-ft container at the rear

My preferred design is no outside posts. I would like the roof/trusses to sit on the containers, not on a separate pole-barn frame.

Proposed layout

Roof type: gable
Roof size: approximately 45 ft wide × 40 ft long
Trusses: approximately 45-ft span
Two 40-ft side containers form the sides
One 45-ft rear container is flush across the back
Approximate clear center bay between side containers: 29 ft

Important design intent

I want to explore a design where:

the roof is supported by the two 40-ft side containers
there are no exterior posts
the 45-ft rear container serves as the back wall/storage area
the center remains open for workspace/equipment

What I need reviewed

Please let me know if you can evaluate and design:

Whether the two 40-ft containers can structurally support the roof system
Required beam/header size on top of the containers, if needed
Truss-to-container / truss-to-beam connection details
Wind/uplift and lateral bracing requirements for this location
Any required reinforcement to the containers
Foundation/support requirements under the containers
Stamped drawings for permit, if feasible
