Licensed Portuguese Structural Engineer
Budget: €18 – €40 EUR
I’m renovating a two-storey house in Madeira and have reached the point where an accredited structural engineer must take the lead on all structural matters. Current CAD drawings are 80 % complete, yet two major changes demand fresh calculations, detailing and an official signature for council submission.
Scope of the structural work
• Create an open-plan living area by partially removing 3 internal load-bearing walls. I’ll need precise reinforcement design for the new openings and supporting beams or steel frames.
• Redesign the entire front façade: the upper level will gain a porch that ties directly into an upstairs bathroom to be built on top, while the lower level becomes the common living area which is primarily windows. This calls for a full structural solution that balances glass, masonry and steel.
• An extra bathroom will also be added onto a concrete porch slab next to the house. Sizes of bathrooms are a bit flexible. I've included three plans, one of the existing house, one is part way finished, and the last is what I would like to see completed.
What I already have
– Existing architectural and structural plans in DWG and PDF.
– A set of local regulations, though some sections are missing: your guidance on any additional codes or seismic provisions required in Madeira will be essential.
– Preliminary ideas on materials (steel lintels, reinforced concrete, laminated glass), but I need your expert confirmation or alternative recommendations.
Deliverables required for municipal approval
1. Updated structural drawings (DWG & PDF) reflecting both wall removals and the new façade.
2. Full structural calculations report in Portuguese, following current Eurocodes and any Madeira-specific annexes.
3. Material and connection specifications suitable for local suppliers.
4. Your signed and stamped declaration/term of responsibility, valid for submission to the Câmara Municipal.
5. A brief guidance note outlining any additional permits or tests we should schedule before construction.
Tools you’re comfortable with are up to you—Tekla, Robot, SAP2000, Revit Structures, or similar—so long as the final files open flawlessly in AutoCAD.
Timeline is flexible but quicker is better. I’d like to lodge the application within six weeks. Please confirm your Portuguese accreditation details and estimated turnaround when you reply.
