Stata Coding for New Variable Creation

I have a dataset of directed dyadic yearly pairs of states. I need to know the maximum and minimum values for each observation across two variables. I have some code that works on some of the cases but not on all. It should be a really quick project and I can check the data to see if it was done properly. I'd also like to have the code.
