Stat question
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
WSW 183 Bouts 62 .34
WFLW 133 Bouts 57 .43
WBW 149 Bouts 62 .42 AVG. .34
WFW 20 Bouts 6 .30
FLW 225 Bouts 65 .29
BW 472 Bouts 154 .33
FW 534 Bouts 204 .38
LW 973 Bouts 285 .29
WW 985 Bouts 323 .33
MW 692 Bouts 256 .37
LHW 520 Bouts 164 .32
HW 470 Bouts 161 .34
Above is a list of bouts that took place and their respective weight classes along with the number of "upsets". I added up all the bouts and upsets and came up with a 34% upset rate across all weight classes.
The highest upset rates are WBW and WFLW .42 and .43 but the sample size is only 133 and 149 total bouts respectively.
Question: Are the odds that the upset rate deviated from the average .34 of all bouts random or is there a statistical significance in their deviation for WFLW and WBW. I would use 2 standard deviations (a 95% confidence interval) to determine whether the results were likely to be random or not. I don't know how to apply the standard deviation formula. Am I thinking about this the right way? Can you show your work?
