Hi there!
I’m looking for an experienced data analyst with solid R programming and data visualization skills to complete a basketball performance analysis project. The focus is on the 2008-09 Los Angeles Lakers NBA season, using a provided dataset with about 35,000 rows of detailed game data.
What You'll Be Doing:
Import and clean the Lakers 2008-09 season dataset (CSV file provided)
Use ggplot2 to build a custom NBA half-court visual (with proper dimensions in feet)
Create shot visualizations (location, type, and outcome) for the Lakers team
Analyze and compare the shooting performance of the top 3 scorers
Identify the most effective shooter with clear justification using metrics, visuals, and statistics
Create a 2,500-word written report summarizing findings
Record a 6-minute video presentation with PowerPoint slides explaining the analysis
Skills Required:
Proficient in R programming
Skilled with ggplot2 and data visual storytelling
Experience in data wrangling / cleaning
Comfortable creating clear, visual reports and slide decks
Bonus: Familiarity with basketball or sports analytics
Deliverables:
PDF Report (approx. 2,500 words)
R Script File (.R) used for the analysis
PowerPoint Slides (used in the presentation)
Video Presentation (6 minutes, recorded via Zoom or similar)
Objective:
The goal is to present a visual and statistical analysis of the team’s shooting performance, with a special focus on court mapping, shot data, and top player profiles.
All data and basketball court measurement details will be provided. You’ll have full creative freedom to make the visuals clean, informative, and engaging.
