I’m working on a systematic review and I would like to know the possibility of conducting meta-analysis in it. As part of my systematic review, my research question aims to understand the current understanding of the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of a rare cancer, and if there is a specific pattern present in this rare entity. My review mainly includes case reports and case series as the primary source of data.
I have been considering the possibility of conducting a meta-analysis to synthesize the available data; however, I am unsure if my data is eligible for meta-analysis, as the included studies are primarily case reports and case series. I am also yet to develop a statistical analysis plan.
I wanted to seek your expert opinion on whether it is feasible to conduct a meta-analysis on case reports and case series, considering the limitations and potential biases associated with these types of studies. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or recommendations you may have in this regard.
