Fix SSL Certificate Error on Magento 2 Store (ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID)
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
Description:
We are running a Magento 2 multi-store setup. One of our storefronts is encountering a critical SSL-related issue during the checkout process. Specifically, when placing an order using a credit card (via Braintree), certain HTTPS requests are failing with the following browser error:
cpp
Copy
Edit
net::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
Interestingly, another store on the same Magento instance is working perfectly with no SSL issues, so this problem seems to be isolated to one domain/subdomain.
We’ve already:
Disabled Rocket Loader in Cloudflare
Confirmed Braintree configuration is correct
Verified Magento settings for base URLs
We suspect it’s related to:
A misconfigured or self-signed SSL certificate for the affected domain
Incorrect DNS, virtual host, or reverse proxy setup
Your responsibilities:
Diagnose and fix the SSL certificate issue for the affected store/domain
Ensure HTTPS requests (especially to Braintree) complete successfully without browser trust issues
Verify compatibility with Cloudflare if applicable
Confirm checkout flow works fully using valid certificates
Requirements:
Strong experience with Magento 2 (including multi-store setups)
Deep understanding of SSL, HTTPS, and certificate trust chains
Familiarity with Braintree integration and browser CORS/Security policies
Comfortable with server-side troubleshooting (Apache/Nginx, Cloudflare, DNS)
Deliverables:
Fully functioning checkout on the affected store
Valid SSL certificate properly trusted by browsers
Brief report on what was fixed
