Moodle MCQ Step Guidance Plugin
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
I need a custom Moodle plugin that adds a “Show Steps” button to multiple-choice quiz questions. When a learner clicks it, numbered text instructions should walk them through the reasoning that leads to the correct answer.
Core behaviour
• The feature sits inside the standard quiz interface without changing Moodle’s grading logic.
• Guidance appears as clean, sequentially numbered steps (e.g. Step 1, Step 2…) in plain text—no images or video.
• Each step block must hide until the learner chooses to view it, so students can attempt the question first if they wish.
Admin & authoring
• In the question-editing screen I want a new field where teachers can enter the numbered explanation once per question.
• The setting should be optional per question, so quizzes that do not need it remain unaffected.
Technical notes
• Moodle 4.x compatibility is required.
• Follow Moodle’s coding standards and supply full install/upgrade/uninstall scripts.
• The code should be modular enough for future extensions (e.g. adding visual aids later).
Deliverables
1. Finished plugin as a zip ready for upload via Site administration → Plugins.
2. SQL or XMLDB schema if new tables are required.
3. Brief setup guide and comments in code explaining key functions.
4. One sample quiz question that demonstrates the new field and front-end behaviour.
I will test on a staging site and sign off once the plugin installs cleanly, the “Show Steps” option appears, and the numbered guidance displays exactly as described.
