Commemorative Speech writing

Prepare and present a 4-5 minute speech that pays tribute to a person, concept, organization, or institution. This speech will be delivered from manuscript. Organize your speech’s main points according to those virtues exhibited by the subject you have chosen to amplify. Incorporate examples of both imagery and rhythm into your speech, and label them on your manuscript. Be sure to select a topic that is praiseworthy for general audiences (praising excessive alcohol/marijuana use or violence are bad topics for general audience, for instance).

Decorum: Make speaking decisions that show appropriate attention to your audience, topic, and occasion.
Language Use: Choose each word carefully and employ colorful, concrete, and evocative language.
Delivery: Have a carefully-polished delivery that employs dramatic pauses, vocal variations, and artistic phrasing. Because there is no research required for this speech, you are expected to put extra time into practicing your delivery.
