Soundscape Creation Reflecting Anxiety

Job ID: 39044428

Budget: €8 – €30 EUR

I am seeking a sound artist to create a 3-minute long soundscape that encapsulates the abstract concept of anxiety. The piece should be intricate, engaging and thought-provoking, utilising a diverse range of sounds to convey the essence of this complex emotional state.

Key requirements:
- The soundscape should incorporate a variety of sound types:
- Natural sounds (e.g., wind, water) to represent the vastness and unpredictability of the external world
- Mechanical sounds (e.g., alarms, machinery) to signify the pressures and stresses of modern life
- Human sounds (e.g., whispers, heartbeats) to reflect the internal dialogue and physiological responses associated with anxiety
- The soundscape must be carefully structured to convey a journey, with shifts in tone, intensity and rhythm to mirror the ebb and flow of anxious thoughts and feelings.

In addition to the soundscape, I require a 2-3 page written piece explaining the intentions behind the work. This should cover:
1) The specific abstract idea of anxiety and how it is represented in the soundscape
2) The semiotic value of specific sounds, considering their role as icons, symbols and indexical signs, as well as the context (paradigm) and structure (syntax) that creates overall meaning.
3) An analysis of Lucy Fischer (Vertov) sound editing and mixing techniques that have been employed.

Ideal candidates will have:
- Demonstrable experience in sound design, particularly in creating conceptual soundscapes.
- Strong understanding of semiotics and ability to articulate complex ideas clearly in writing.
- Familiarity with Lucy Fischer's sound editing techniques and ability to replicate her style.
