An experienced Solidworks mechanical designer for ongoing work

Job ID: 33619693

Budget: $15 – $35 USD

GENREAL DESCRIPTION
A multi-faceted and motivated Senior-Mechanical Engineer to join our growing R&D team to help us design and build multidisciplinary systems.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
I own and manage a mechanical design and development business that delivers turnkey services to electro-optic defense and medical industries. I'm now in the process of expanding so I'm looking for talents to help me grow.

THE JOB
You will take projects from concept/ideation, through to modelling, prototyping, all the way through to manufacturing. The work will be under my supervision and guidance. Independence and responsibility will increase gradually.

The Projects
The projects varies from lab setups, tools and jigs (bonding, assembly, calibration) to mechanisms and products (e.g., precision gimbals, stabilization systems, opto-mechanical assemblies).
Most of the projects are for opto-mechanical systems, there is a lot of precision mechanics. This means it is mostly machined parts with occasional Aluminum casting or welding.
The most common materials I work with are Aluminum (6061-T6/T651) with Anodic coating dyed black (with masked areas with only chromatic coating where conductivity or EMI/RFI shielding is required) and Stainless steel 303/304/316 or 17-4PH/15-15PH with passivation.
The timeline for our projects is relatively quick for a physical product.
Relevant standards: ANSI/ASME, DIN/ISO, MIL, 60601, REACH/ROHS.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Significant experience in mechanical design, ideally in opto-mechanical systems and precision mechanisms of defense systems and/or medical devices.
2. Proficiency in Solidworks.
Work is done on Solidworks 2019- 2021.
When it comes to modeling, I have very high standards:
Models shall have a clean and well-organized feature tree. This is important so the parts are easy to modify and are not heavy to load (critical in large assemblies). This means an error-less tree with no excess features, minimal external references (external references shall be locked) and have the material defined. Assemblies shall be clean and fully defined (except where freedom is needed), using pattern driven features, proper mates, with different configurations where needed. Hardware shall be well defined (no Toolbox items – I have SW standard).
3. Understanding of tolerances and the corresponding manufacturing capabilities. You should understand GD&T - see an examples of parts I design.
Ability to perform tolerance analysis is preferable.
4. Excellent English, written and spoken and strong communication skills. Communication is key so I need to be able to communicate with you freely.
5. Signing an NDA / Service agreement.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES
I'm always looking to introduce new technologies - in my designs (e.g., fabrication technologies), in the design process (e.g., automation or topologic optimization) and in my workflow (e.g., management and collaboration tools).

CLARIFICATION
I need someone with experience in designing accurate (mostly machined) parts and assemblies (systems, mechanisms, tools and jigs). Automation, industrial design, machinery design and consumer product design are irrelevant for this job.
