Assignment 1: Strategic Part Modelling
Model the two configurations of the assigned Plastic Moulded Cover Model using
SolidWorks 2021 from the PDF drawing provided on Sulis and insert a linked note on both
configurations of the part model that displays their calculated mass properties in grams to
two decimal places.
Assignment 2: Conveyor System with Product Sorting Mechanism
Using SolidWorks 2021 design, model, simulate and create the resulting motion video file of
a conveyor system to incorporate a sorting mechanism to sort three different product types
into their corresponding bays. The primary focus should be on the use of event based motion
analysis tools to simulate the sequencing of system event tasks using proximity sensors,
trigger ejector actuators and appropriate actions.
Design documentation for assignment 2
1. Design idea sketches and notes for your conveyor system.
2. Your conveyor system should make maximum use of sub-assemblies and other
appropriate assembly modelling tools.
3. Use event based motion simulation to simulate the conveyor with a three product
sorting mechanism in a logical efficient sequence.
4. Use assembly configurations and display states to highlight the different elements,
features and assembly of the system.
5. Create an exploded configuration of the conveyor system with assembly trails.
6. Create a single drawing file (multiple sheets) to comprehensively capture the
conveyor system assembly and part information. All drawings must be dimensioned
in accordance with BS ISO 129-1:2004 (replaces BS308) and should include
dimensional tolerances where appropriate.
7. Create a BOM and balloon reference for the exploded configuration.
8. Create two printed photo quality images of the conveyor system from different
viewing directions using PhotoView 360 or SolidWorks Visualize.
9. Create a good quality MP4 video file incorporating the motion analysis animation to
demonstrate the operation of the conveyor system and the sorting mechanism.
Assignment 3: Sheet Metal Assignment
Sheet metal features are an essential component within many industries to house or enclose
various designs. Model a sheet metal housing or structure using the SolidWorks 2021 sheet
metal tools and generate comprehensive design drawing documentation to include flat pattern
drawing views in a single drawing document (multiple sheets). The sheet metal
housing/structure must incorporate the use of custom forming tools as well as a range of
sheet metal features and techniques.
Assignment 4: Weldment Assignment
The design and manufacture of welded and bolted structures and frames form the backbone
of many products and machines. Using the SolidWorks 2021 weldments design functionality
create the structural frame for a machine or product of your choice and generate
comprehensive design drawings, to include a weldment cut list table, drawings of individual
bodies and all required manufacturing documentation for the complete structural frame. You
are expected to use 3D as well as 2D sketching and custom profiles as required.
