Accounting Systems Tester for HOA Software

Job Title: Accounting Systems Tester (HOA / Property Management Software)

Type: Contract / Part-Time (Flexible Hours)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced accountant to thoroughly test and validate a modern accounting platform designed for homeowner associations (HOAs) and property management companies.
This is not a traditional accounting role. You will act as a system tester and financial validator, ensuring that all accounting functions operate accurately, consistently, and in compliance with standard accounting principles.
You will simulate real-world accounting scenarios, identify inconsistencies, and provide detailed feedback to improve system accuracy, reporting, and usability.
Responsibilities
Perform end-to-end testing of accounting workflows, including:
Invoice creation and management
Payment processing (including partial payments and allocations)
Accounts receivable and payable
Bank reconciliation
General ledger accuracy
Validate financial reports, including:
Balance Sheet
Income Statement (Profit & Loss)
General Ledger
Delinquency reports
Simulate real-world HOA/property management accounting scenarios:
Monthly assessments
Late fees and penalties
Owner payments and delinquencies
Vendor bills and payments
Verify accuracy of:
Transaction posting
Account balances
Allocation logic
Period-based reporting
Identify bugs, inconsistencies, and edge cases in financial logic
Provide clear, structured feedback with:
Steps to reproduce issues
Expected vs. actual results
Suggestions for improvement
Collaborate with the development team to refine accounting workflows
Requirements
Strong accounting background (REQUIRED)
CPA preferred but not required
Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience
Experience with:
Property management accounting OR HOA accounting (strongly preferred)
Accounts receivable and payable
Financial reporting and reconciliation
Deep understanding of:
Double-entry accounting
Accrual vs. cash basis accounting
Financial statement structure
Experience using accounting software such as:
QuickBooks
AppFolio
Buildium
or similar platforms
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies
Ability to document findings clearly and communicate effectively
Comfortable working independently and testing complex systems
Nice to Have
Experience testing or implementing accounting systems
Familiarity with software QA processes
Experience working with APIs or financial integrations (e.g., ACH payments)
Understanding of HOA-specific financial structures
What Success Looks Like
The system produces accurate financial statements under all tested scenarios
Edge cases are identified and resolved
Accounting workflows are validated for real-world use
Clear documentation of issues and improvements is provided
