Standalone Installer: Orly's Draw-A-Story
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I own the original copy of “Orly’s Draw-A-Story” (and have an ISO which I'd prefer to use.) but, after countless attempts in VMware and VirtualBox, the program still crashes or loses sound whenever VirtualBox or VMware update and sometimes even after a windows update. . I want a single, self-contained installer that a non-technical user can double-click, watch it finish, and start drawing without ever touching virtual-machine settings again.
Scope
• Target OS: Windows 10 and Windows 11 (both Home and Pro editions).
• Installer format: I am open to .exe, .msi, or any other hassle-free approach; choose the route that guarantees the smoothest user experience.
• Compatibility layer: bundle whatever is necessary—DirectDraw restoration, possible QuickTime components, wrappers like dgVoodoo, DxWnd, or an embedded emulator—so the game launches full-screen with sound and tablet/mouse input intact. No separate downloads should be required.
• Uninstall routine: remove every file and registry key your package adds.
• Future extensibility: please leave build notes so I can reuse the same method for a few other Win-98/XP titles later (to be quoted separately).
Deliverables
1. Signed stand-alone installer.
2. Clean uninstaller.
3. Build/packaging documentation (step-by-step).
4. Quick test report confirming the game runs through the intro, drawing segment, and story playback on fresh Windows 10 and 11 installs.
I work on a tight budget, yet reliability is more important than fancy splash screens. If the job interests you, tell me which compatibility tools you would rely on and how you will keep them legal and lightweight. I am open to proposals.
Note my budget is from $150 to 250 atm. (for Orly only) If it gets too complex i can try to pay a bit more but that's where I'm at.
