Very old database deconstruct
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
Im looking to get the text data from 3 very old software programs into a CSV or plain text - something usable today.
History
The software in question is from mid 1990s. They were CD ROMs with births deaths and marriages around Australia. They were executed each disc at a time - so you put one disc in, and you ran the EXE on that disc and search the data on that disc. To search a new disc, you put in the disc reqiured and go through the EXE on that disc.
Currently i have the 3 discs in question on my google drive.
Another freelancer managed to crack one set of discs and their original Delphi code so ive got 17 CSVs with all the disc data from them. Unfortunately he couldnt figure out the last 3 discs - they were something very different. He did comment that it looks like an archaic piece of software that does not support any Windows UI.
It is all text only - the UI is text only and very basic. Some screen shots of it running are attached. Also attached is what one of the folders looks like in my explorer window.
The software used to make them is old. I do not know the language or systems used and may well be a DOS TEXT ONLY program long before MS Word was thought about. These are pre-Windows XP software packages and I am told the latest version of Windows they run on is XP. I beleive you will need a virtual machine or emulator to run them in XP.
The job - to download all the data from each of the 3 discs/folders into a CSV or plain text.
How you do it is a matter for yourself. I dont need the programs after the data is extracted.
I do not need any other details about the programs or anything - i just want the data that makes up each database from each disc on CSVs. One CSV (or more as required) from each disc. FYI 2 of the other discs returned CSVs of greater than 1.08 million rows of data so the data was returned in 2 CSVs.
That is the job. For those who think they can get it out, the sharable items i can provide -
*Software Folders
3 seperate folders so in their original form they would have been on the 3 CD ROMs.
*Emulator Folder
That is an emulator built by some guy a number of years ago to run the discs on WinXP systems. The guy who built the emulator died a number of years ago. The previous developer didnt use it - he had his own (i didnt ask what it was). Ive included it here in case it may offer some clues as to the these disc structures.
The disc data is all on my google drive - I will provide that share link to those serious about the job.
