Software Analysis & Design

Job ID: 31927081

Budget: $10 – $30 AUD

Scenario:
You are an Analyst Programmer working for a national logistics company.

The company is looking at ways to automate their delivery processes by building a proprietary software system, and you have been tasked with undertaking the Systems Analysis & Design activities to model a solution.

When complete you should present your work to the Lead Programmer (in this case the trainer will act as the Lead Programmer).

Currently, the delivery process is as follows:

A driver picks up all their delivery parcels for the day at a processing centre
At each delivery, the driver keeps a consignment note on which they write the time they delivered the parcel
At the end of their shift, they lodge their consignment notes with the processing clerk
The processing clerk data enters the consignment number and the date and time the parcel was delivered into the system

The proposed solution is a simple mobile application that will let a driver lodge their consignment note data directly into the system at the time of the delivery.

From an architectural perspective the application must include:

A simple interface to enter the consignment number, date, time and the drivers ID number
An SQL database to store the delivery information in case there is a network issue
A process to lodge the delivery data via a web service

Task 1
It is your job to prepare the systems requirement specification (SRS) including all of the following:

A Use Case diagram
A Data Flow Diagram
A database design schema (database design schemas can be accessed on the following training page at the end of Topic 1, Programming basics:
SQL (creating and manipulating tables) & Database design basics
A UI design mock-up
A software risk analysis
Test plan (what will you test) and test data

Task 2
Once you have prepared the above designs, you must validate each tool and the test plan and its data against the Software Requirements Specification to ensure your solution is appropriate.
Then record the results of your validation, and make any changes necessary to your system designs.

Submission
Submit as a single document.

Include in the document your Use Case, Data Flow Diagram, Database Schema, UI Mock-up, software risk analysis, and SRS validation.
